Student Spotlight - Caprice Diaz

Caprice Diaz, a first-generation college student, mother of four, and grandmother of four, is fulfilling a lifelong dream by attending San Antonio College.

While she always wanted to go to college, it just wasn’t an option due to lack of resources.

Raising four kids takes a lot of time—and money. Before her senior year of high school, she was forced to drop out when she found out she was pregnant.

Twenty-five years later, she finally got the opportunity to earn a GED through the SAC Empowerment Center’s GED-to-College Transition program. In Fall 2016, she began taking classes in SAC’s Business Management program.

Today, she has a passion for helping young people, especially young mothers, like her oldest daughter who, at 25, is a single-mother to a nine-year old daughter. “No matter what, you have to stay positive and determined,” she says. “Just go for it.”

In addition to taking nine credit hours, Caprice also works part-time as an administrative support specialist in SAC’s Office of the Vice President of College Services.

Upon graduating from SAC, Caprice hopes to transfer to Our Lady of the Lake University to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Caprice is kind, helpful, grateful, professional, organized, positive, dedicated, and SAC PROUD.
