In trying to meet the growing job demands in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), Palo Alto College is concentrating on efforts to promote STEM-related programs to students.  As you will see from our list of STEM advising guides and certificates, we have several available for students whose interests are within these fields.  As a college who tries to serve its community, the need is to offer these skills so students can find jobs in STEM markets that are growing.

Students will have the opportunity to speak to STEM advisors who will explore options based on the interests of the student.  Our advisors will guide students with a course plan that will allow them to graduate with the skills and knowledge ready for the occupation they choose.

As campus activities arise, STEM students will be alerted so they can receive information that will be pertinent to their college success.  Likewise, opportunities regarding internships and scholarships will periodically become available that will help prepare students for future jobs.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, "The United States has become a global leader, in large part, through the genius and hard work of its scientists, engineers and innovators. Yet today, that position is threatened as comparatively few American students pursue expertise in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)—and by an inadequate pipeline of teachers skilled in those subjects."  As such, Palo Alto College is making these pathways available to students and the community.
