Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is New Student Orientation Required?
A: Yes. All new first time in college students must attend an on-campus
orientation. The purpose of this orientation is to introduce students to the
campus, provide them with valuable resources, and teach them to register for
classes.
Q: Can I bring guests with me to my orientation?
A: Parents, siblings, or other support individuals are welcome to attend the
session with their student. However, due to space limitations, during larger
sessions, supporting guests may be asked to sit outside during the registration
session to allow enough room for the students.
Q: When will I meet with a Certified Advisor?
A: You will meet with a Certified Advisor during your New Student Orientation
Session. Although the session is conducted in a group format, advisors,
faculty, and staff will be available to assist you and answer all of your
questions as you register. After your New Student Orientation, you will also
receive an assigned Academic Advisor that you will be able to meet with
individually each semester. More information will be provided at orientation.
Q: What should I bring with me to New Student Orientation?
A: Please bring a photo ID and your confirmation email to your orientation
session. It is also recommended that you bring a notepad for jotting down
notes, and you may also wish to bring a list of questions you have for an
advisor. Be sure to also bring your enthusiasm, pride, and excitement!
Q: Where will my session be held and where can I park?
A: You will receive a confirmation email after signing up for a session that
will confirm your time, date, and location of the orientation, as well as
parking instructions. You can also click here
to view our campus map.
Q: What if I or my guests need special accommodations?
A: If you or your guests have a disability or circumstances that require
special accommodations during New Student Orientation, please contact our
Access Office at least one week prior to
your session by phone at 210-486-4466 or by email at nvc-access@alamo.edu.
Q: I may arrive late or need to leave my session early. Do I
have to attend the entire session?
A: Students must attend the entire orientation session to receive credit for
attending and to be allowed to register for courses. Students who do not arrive
on time or leave early may be asked to reschedule their session.
