Contributing to Our Community

In the economic arena, a sizable 80% of our students stay in the region after they leave college and contribute positively to the local economy. The Alamo Colleges' current and past cumulative effect represents $1.5 billion in additional regional income due to students' higher earnings and the resulting increased productivity of businesses. An Alamo Colleges education also contributes to social savings through improved health, lower crime costs and reduced welfare and unemployment. Alamo Colleges' students higher earnings expand the tax base and reduce the tax burden of local property owners.

The Alamo Colleges also serve as a valued community resources for cultural events that are open to the public. Community members can attend plays, dance and musical performances, view art exhibitions, attend health and wellness events and hear nationally-known speakers at San Antonio College's McAllister Auditorium, St. Philip's College's Watson Fine Arts Center and Palo Alto College's Performing Arts Center. Palo Alto College also has a world-class natatorium that hosts national swimming and diving competitions. The Scobee Planetarium at San Antonio College offers fascinating special programs and free stargazing for the public. Our libraries are open to the public ,and Palo Alto College's library even offers a special Children's Library area.

Through our Continuing Education programs we offer community members easily accessible opportunities to enhance their job skills, as well as a wide range of classes for personal enrichment.
